Clemence Poesy: International Star You Should Know
French actress is particularly busy in English-speaking roles

‘POTTER’ FLOWER
Clemence Poesy, along with Lea Seydoux, is among the hot French exports starring in English-language productions. She’s best known for her roles as Fleur Delacour in the “Harry Potter” saga and Joan of Arc in French drama “The Silence of Joan,” as well as turns in English-lingo indies “127 Hours” and “In Bruges.”
U.K. CONNECTION
A graduate of France’s National Academy of Dramatic Arts, Poesy moved to the U.K. and broke through in English-language TV as Mary, Queen of Scots in 2004 BBC hit miniseries “Gunpowder, Treason & Plot.”
‘TUNNEL’ VISION
The 31-year-old actress just made her French TV debut in bilingual thriller “The Tunnel,” co-produced by Canal Plus/Sky Atlantic. “It was quite a challenge to stay in my character through 10 episodes while being directed by five different filmmakers,” she says.
STAGE COACH
Poesy, whose father, Etienne Guichard, is a stage director, made her Broadway debut this summer playing Roxane in “Cyrano de Bergerac.” Poesy is currently treading the boards in a Paris production of “Je danse toujours,” directed by dad.

SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS
On top of acting, Poesy is the face of Chloe perfume and Dutch clothing designer G-Star. She sings backup with Miles Kane on the debut release from his Brit band the Last Shadow Puppets, recently co-directed a short film, and is co-writing, with friends, the script of a feature comedy.
OPPORTUNITY KNOCKED
Before appearing in Laetitia Masson’s French-language drama “GHB: To Be or Not to Be,” she’ll next star in “Last Love,” opposite Michael Caine. “I never told myself, ‘I want to have an international career,’ ” Poesy says. “I just happened to get a lot more opportunities to work in the U.K. than in France.”
