Darren Criss, Colman Domingo Help Raise Funds for MPTF as Requests for Financial Assistance In

Darren Criss headlined the 2023 NextGen Summer Party Sunday night at NeueHouse Hollywood.

The Emmy winner performed “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from “Grease” as well as a medley of summer-themes songs.

The annual MPTF NextGen Board event raised more than $80,000 for the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s support of working and retired members of the entertainment community for health and social services and financial assistance.

Criss explained that MPTF usually receives about 20 calls a day from people requesting assistance; that number has jumped to 200 in the midst of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. He said about 75 percent of the requests now come from below-the-line workers. “We are in challenging times,” Criss said.

He said he fully supports the actors walkout, but also acknowledged the hardships its created. “Our industry is made of freelance work,” Criss said. “If we don’t work, we don’t get paid.”

The evening also included raffles for roundtrip tickets to New York on Delta with a stay at the Ritz Carlton as well as VIP packages for Los Angeles sports teams, including the Lakers, Dodgers and Sparks.
