Rixo fashion label profile and interview

Hands up who wants to float about in a vintage-inspired dress that feels beautiful, looks effortlessly pretty and comes at a reasonable price point?

This is exactly the idea behind new fashion label Rixo, designed by former ASOS buyers and best friends Orlagh McCloskey and Henrietta Rix. Recognising a gap in the market for timeless, well-designed and flattering clothes at accessible prices, they decided to launch their own label.

It riffs on the laid-back easy bohemia of LA and Australian brands, but swapping any beach vibes for a look that is more wearable for the slightly more turbulent British weather. It's Sienna Miller-style grown-up romance, but for women who work in a city and don't have time to rummage around vintage markets or shops.

"Obsessed by vintage but knowing how annoying it is when you find that unique one off piece but then it's not in your size or it's a weird fit," said McCloskey. "We bring the best vintage elements and make them for the modern woman."

This translates as midi-length and maxi silk dresses and skirts covered in colourful floral prints, with sexy thigh splits; flattering swing dresses with embroidered high necks; cropped wrap-around silk shirts that feel very Katharine Hepburn and elegant coats with pretty scalloped trim. Pretty, refined and with lashings of charm.

The brand's campaign is a testament to its versatility, starring a younger and older model.

"She definitely isn't defined by an age group," says Rix of their customer. "She loves a print and mixing vintage with current day pieces and isn't afraid to stand out in a classy way. She knows what she likes and doesn't care what season it is or what's in trend - if she loves it, she's wearing it how she wants."
